Typically once a year I talk to the scouts about what kit and equipment they should look for so that they can enjoy the activities we provide.  The wrong kit can give the Scout a less-than-positive experience for the activity, which perhaps could be avoided.

This page is a collection of the Blog entries that I will write about what to look for in purchasing camp equipment.  I will try to make no assumption that anyone has money to throw about – but there are always a few things to consider to help to ensure that any purchase will be of a reasonable quality.  I’ll also try not to mention specific prices or products – these things change from month to month!

This collection will include general camping equipment plus one or two extra gadgets that I’ve played with.

I really must add here though that if you have any questions about buying equipment, GO TO A CAMPING SHOP and ask them.  Or ask a Scout Leader at the end of the evening.  But don’t expect the staff at Tesco’s to be able to advise you on the waterproof test results of their waterproof jacket.

I should also add – when you go shopping, take your Scout Progress book (and your scarf) – you may be able to get a discount on purchases (Leaders, take your warrant card for similar – the other day I was pleased to get the 10% discount off my purchases!)
