TLW Challenge for week starting 11 January Saturday, Jan 9 2010

With the new year upon us, a Scout’s mind should turn to… camping.  With that in mind, and because the challenge will be a Two Week Challenge, it falls into two parts.

Part 1.

Find out the costs for the following two items of camping equipment from the online Scout Shops – http://www.scoutshops.com/:

1. Snugpak Chrysalis Softie Autumn (sleeping bag)

2. Vango Premium 5cm Sleeping Mat (foam sleeping mat)

If you can get these two, you will get the points for two weeks worth of TLW Challenges (which will include any ACCUMULATOR points…)

Part 2.

There is an additional maximum of 10 points available if you can find these items cheaper anywhere else.  You need to tell me the website address and the cost that you saw it advertised as.  The cheapest deal will get 10 additional points, the next 9, then 8 points etc.  I’ll worry about matched prices at the end of the two weeks.

Answers can be by email, or as comments to this post, or by handing in your answer when we next meet at Scouts.  Good luck!

End of Term Points Wednesday, Dec 23 2009

So, who took the top points and prizes for this term?

Find out here:  Points summary to 18.12.9

Here you will find which Patrol will be heading to McDonalds when we get back, and who really contributed to the scores!

Next term, we will be looking to introduce “THE ACCUMULATOR” so by answering the TLW challenge each week you can really multiply your points for the patrol!  It’s soo exciting – and even more reason to have a few goes at the  TLW challenge; even if you don’t get the right 5 you will still get points for taking part!

TLW Challenge – for 5th October Sunday, Oct 4 2009

As we work towards the Pathfinder Weekend, this weeks question will be based on information on this website, especially around camping equipment.  You will need to follow one of the links within the “Purchasing Camping Equipment” page (look to the right most column under pages to find this page).

The question is this:  which TWO “gunky” products are recommended for keeping boots waterproof?

Answers on a piece of paper for next meeting!

Bowling Night! Friday, Mar 27 2009

Streee-ike!

I wish I could say I said that, but in truth I only managed a few.  With the fourteen Scouts also aiming for Strikes or Spares to get their Two Left Welly points.  We were ably assisted by a very helpful lady to set up the lane information (she was quite polite when I started to spell FROG and she said it was one of the few names this evening she just knew how to spell! )

All the lanes had their sides up – which I have to admit that I may have made use of during one bowl – but it meant that the Scouts bowling balls at least got to the end… although some were having a good look at their surroundings as they slowly meandered the way down…

A fun evening which I think everyone enjoyed.  Only 3 Scouts didn’t get a strike or a spare… but as the Leaders did get enough “extras” in their bowling no-one missed out on the points.  The final scores (for those scoring over 100) were:

Jamie – 101

Jordy – 101

Oskar – 108

Alan – 135

Frog – 137 (two points!  Just 2 points!!!)

Anyway, that is the last of the formal Scout meetings for this term; a new programme will be drawn up and circulated to Scouts soon.

This should be a really fun challenge!  The TV programme Blue Peter has set a challenge – design the Tails side of a 50p piece to celebrate the Olympics coming to London in 2012.  This will be the first time that such a competition has been run, so the successful winner could see their coin pressed into circulation!

The deadline for the competition is the 2nd March.  All rules, information etc can be found here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/bluepeter/central/getinvolved/index_competitions.shtml

BUT… FOR TWO LEFT WELLIES BONUS PATROL POINTS:

Even if you don’t enter the Blue Peter competition, if you can present your design to Ivor or David before the 2nd March, you will gain valuable Bonus points for your Patrol – which may lead to your Patrol getting the trip to MacDonalds!

Thinking caps on!
