TLW Challenge – w/c 28 June Friday, Jun 25 2010

So this Friday we will be embarking on part of the Community Challenge Badge – for some the last part to getting the badge; but for all it’s the bit that we’ve had the biggest challenge organising.

So the TLW challenge for this week is:

Scouts are to bring the following 2 items to the Troop Meeting:

1.  An old newspaper

2.  A T-Towel (this will probably get used and mucky… you have been warned!)

TLW Challenge w/c 8 March Friday, Mar 5 2010

Last week’s challenge was fun – I had a great time working out the points from that!

Inkeeping with a request from Ivor that I link the TLW challenge to the Scout programme in some way, I decided that the following question should be about routes.

Please answer the following two Questions:

1.  When PLANNING a route, what walking speed (in kilometres per hour – Kph) is generally considered reasonable?

2.  What is Naismith’s rule?

Note that Question 1 is about planning the route  -we all know that the speed that the group Actually should walk is the speed of the slowest person.

Have fun!

TLW Challenge w/c 15th February Friday, Feb 12 2010

I was really impressed with all the facts that I was given about the Airbus!
As we will have a half term break, this challenge will span 2 WEEKS.

In the new term we will be working towards the cycle weekend camp.  With that in mind, I’d like you to put on your thinking caps and answer the following:
The Ultimate Bicycle Company (not a real company!) wants to design and build the Ultimate Bicycle – one that will be good for BMX, off road, on road, hills, flats – in fact everything that you might want to use a bicycle for.  Because it’s a “green” company it can’t have an engine (obviously!) – but it must be something that will appeal to all ages and both boys, girls, men and women (they have decided that they may need to build different sizes of bicycle)
YOU are part of the survey group to provide the ticklist of features that the bicyle will have.
What feature(s) would you like to see on The ultimate Bicycle – and why?
As a starter:
I’d like to see a pullover canopy for when it rains – but it must be possible to fold it away when it’s not being used.

TLW Challenge for week starting 11 January Saturday, Jan 9 2010

With the new year upon us, a Scout’s mind should turn to… camping.  With that in mind, and because the challenge will be a Two Week Challenge, it falls into two parts.

Part 1.

Find out the costs for the following two items of camping equipment from the online Scout Shops – http://www.scoutshops.com/:

1. Snugpak Chrysalis Softie Autumn (sleeping bag)

2. Vango Premium 5cm Sleeping Mat (foam sleeping mat)

If you can get these two, you will get the points for two weeks worth of TLW Challenges (which will include any ACCUMULATOR points…)

Part 2.

There is an additional maximum of 10 points available if you can find these items cheaper anywhere else.  You need to tell me the website address and the cost that you saw it advertised as.  The cheapest deal will get 10 additional points, the next 9, then 8 points etc.  I’ll worry about matched prices at the end of the two weeks.

Answers can be by email, or as comments to this post, or by handing in your answer when we next meet at Scouts.  Good luck!

End of Term Points Wednesday, Dec 23 2009

So, who took the top points and prizes for this term?

Find out here:  Points summary to 18.12.9

Here you will find which Patrol will be heading to McDonalds when we get back, and who really contributed to the scores!

Next term, we will be looking to introduce “THE ACCUMULATOR” so by answering the TLW challenge each week you can really multiply your points for the patrol!  It’s soo exciting – and even more reason to have a few goes at the  TLW challenge; even if you don’t get the right 5 you will still get points for taking part!
